About Lanesboro
Lanesboro is about as quiet as the county gets. You'd be up in the north of the county, on the old Chicago Great Western line, in a town of just over a hundred people. Most of it sits in the South Central Calhoun district, so that's where your children would go. Tell us you want a house in Lanesboro and we'll call you when one comes up.
Lanesboro was laid out in 1901, when the Mason City and Fort Dodge Railroad, later the Chicago Great Western, was built through the county. It was named for Julius Lane, an early settler nearby. Its first postmaster came over from Carroll and opened a hardware store. The new post office finished off the inland town of Benan a short way off, which disappeared. Lanesboro had 268 residents in 1910.
Much of Lanesboro is served by the South Central Calhoun Community School District.
