About Coon Rapids
Coon Rapids gives you the Middle Raccoon River, a golf course and a town that has been drawing visitors since a Soviet leader came to see the corn. You're about half an hour from Carroll. If you're thinking about buying or selling here, start with a phone call.
The first Coon Rapids was a mill site and stagecoach stop on the Middle Raccoon River in the early 1860s. When the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad came through in 1882, an entirely new town was platted about a mile west. Over the next few years the merchants physically moved their buildings to it. In September 1959 the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev visited the Roswell Garst farm outside town, a stop he had asked for himself.
Served by the Coon Rapids-Bayard Community School District.
