About Lake View
Lake View is the one town on this list where you can live on the water. Black Hawk Lake has beaches, ramps and campgrounds, and the Sauk Rail Trail runs from here toward Carroll. Call us early and tell us whether you want to be on the water or near it.
Lake View was laid out in 1880 as Fletcher, around a Chicago and North Western station. It took its present name on incorporation in 1887, for the view over the water then called Wall Lake and now Black Hawk Lake. The lake is natural and glacial, and the Iowa DNR describes it as the southernmost glacial lake in the United States. The Civilian Conservation Corps built much of the surrounding state park in the 1930s, including several of its shelters.
Served by the East Sac County Community School District, whose junior and senior high school is in Lake View.
The Black Hawk Lake Summer Water Carnival has run every July since 1952. The Men's Club plays its Arctic Open out on the frozen lake on the first Saturday of February.
